In Memoriam Presentation at NACA Live 2024
At NACA Live in Pittsburgh, the Association began a new initiative to honor and recognize members who passed during the preceding calendar year at the Recognition Celebration. In Memoriam requests can be made throughout the year via a new form on the website, so the office can inform the Association of a member's passing in a timely manner. Requests made by December 31, 2023 were included in this year's presentation. This year, we mourned the loss of Paul Anthony Bradley, Jr., T. Todd Masman, & David Nevins.
Paul Anthony Bradley, Jr.
In 2013, Paul relocated to Statesboro, GA, where he started the journey to obtain his Master of Education in Counselor Education, Student Services in Higher Education at Georgia Southern University. While dedicated to his degree, he became a Graduate Assistant for the Office of Student Activities and completed internships in a variety of other campus departments until he graduated in December 2015. Putting his Master’s degree to use, Paul joined the Augusta University Student Life & Engagement Office as Program Coordinator for Student Involvement until August 2018. In Augusta, he oversaw large-scale campus programming and advised the student activities programming board.
Paul returned to his alma mater, Georgia Southern University in September 2018 as the Assistant Director of Student Activities at Georgia Southern Armstrong Campus in Savannah, GA, where he expanded his professional work with campus programming and advising along with serving on a variety of university-wide communities and facilitating presentations. Paul was also active in national professional organizations, including NACA and NASPA by attending conferences and volunteering on committees.
In Fall 2021, Paul began his doctorate degree journey at the University of West Georgia in Higher Education Administration.
As friends shared, Paul was a ray of sunshine to many. His vibrancy and outgoing personality is truly missed.
T. Todd Masman
Todd was an active volunteer for the Association in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Masman served in a variety of regional roles for the then Upper Midwest, including Regional Coordinator and Regional Conference Coordinator, as well as serving as a program committee member of the 1995 national convention and Regional Staff Member At-Large for the Board of Directors in 2000.
Todd received his undergraduate degree in Christian Education from West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV, and later earned his MA in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. He dedicated his career to working as a director of student activities at colleges and universities in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, always striving to create inclusive and welcoming communities for all students.
Friends shared of Todd: He was passionate about his work with college students. He served as an advocate for students and their efforts on campus. He served as an advisor to students to help them navigate campus politics, procedures, and policies. But most of all, he served as a partner in providing unique educational experiences, formally and informally, by supporting students and the many challenges that they faced. He facilitated insightful dialogue with students, colleagues, and vendors addressing student development, diversity, inclusion, equity, LGBTQ issues, politics, economics, and many other issues of the day. He walked the halls of campuses and professional associations (including NACA) with strong ethics, grace, empathy, loyalty, and kindness.
David Nevins
David Nevins was an integral part of the NACA community, dedicating himself tirelessly to the betterment of students and colleagues alike. Throughout his career, David embarked on a journey in higher education that would shape countless lives.
David's educational journey led him to earn a Bachelor's in Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, followed by a Master's in College Student Personnel from Western Illinois University. His commitment to education extended far beyond the classroom, as he began his career at Clarke College in Dubuque, IA in 1991, serving as the Director of Residence Life and Student Activities.
In 2000, David brought his passion for student engagement to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he served as the Director of Campus Activities until his retirement in September of 2019. Throughout his tenure, David supervised Campus Programming and Relations, leaving an indelible mark on the university community.
David's impact reverberated far beyond the campuses he served. As a devoted volunteer with NACA, David's passion for mentoring and guiding was unparalleled. Recognized with numerous awards, including the Lifetime Membership Award, David's influence within NACA was profound.
As members shared about David: David was a life-long servant to his students. He has opened his heart to many people through decades. If you come to know David, you know you are loved in return. David encouraged kindness towards others, leaving the world better than you found it, and not taking yourself too seriously. The UW-Platteville and NACA communities are better because of David Nevins.
Today, as we remember David, we honor his legacy of compassion, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to student success. His impact will continue to resonate within the hearts and minds of all those whose lives he touched.
